About Us

The Appleton Excel Volleyball Club was founded in 2003 and is organized as a 501 (c)3 not for profit   corporation. It is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and is staffed by volunteer coaches, volleyball parents and other interested individuals.

Appleton Excel is a member of the Badger Region Volleyball Association and plays under the guidelines of the USA Volleyball Association. For more information about Badger Region, visit www.badgerregionvolleyball.org.

Appleton Excel's Mission

To develop and enhance the physical, mental, and leadership skills of volleyball athletes while practicing good sportsmanship in a highly competitive environment.

Vision

It is our vision, through the joint efforts of parents, players, and   coaches, we will:

1.    Provide organized training, competition, recreation and education for volleyball players.
2.    Develop and prepare athletes to play volleyball.
3.    Provide an opportunity for athletes to play at a high level of competition through in-state, regional, and national tournament play.
4.    Create a culture that is synonymous with excellence.

History

The club began in 2003 with an Appleton East High School volleyball   focus and support base that consisted of two teams, twenty players and   some very dedicated coaches and parents.

The club evolved to include all Appleton Area School District (AASD)   high schools in 2006, which include Appleton East, Appleton North, and Appleton West. Throughout the years, the club has always been able to   accept players from other schools in and around the Fox Valley, but the focus was still to increase the potential of Appleton Area School District volleyball athletes by building teams filled predominately with AASD athletes. In 2009, the club consisted of seven teams and over 70 players.

We competed in our first National Qualifier in Indianapolis in March of 2006. The Excel 17-1 team finished with a 6-2 record while competing against teams from Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Texas. We have since been a regular participant at many age levels at Region Championships and National Qualifiers.

Now, in 2010, the club has made more changes and opened up the club to volleyball athletes from all schools. This change only impacts our team creation standards and allows us to help all high schools compete at a higher level and, hopefully, help the Fox Valley junior club volleyball scene become more popular with young athletes.

We look forward to the coming seasons of club volleyball and hope we have a chance to help Excel players and their families reach their goals.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.  What age groups will Excel offer this year?

A. Our intent is to field teams in the following age groups: 12s, 13s, 14s, 15s, 16s, and   17s.
The number of teams may be reduced or increased based on the number of players who try-out.
The structure will be a 1s and 2s scenario with 1s being the highest skilled team.

Q. When are your try-outs?

A. Try-outs are held in November. For exact date and times for your age group, look at this page.

Q. How long does the season last, when do you practice, and where do you play?

A. Our season begins with practice in early December and concludes in mid-March. Practices are typically three   times per week in December and two times per week once tournament play begins in January. Tournaments have traditionally been held throughout the state of Wisconsin on Saturdays or Sundays.

Q. I am involved in other activities that may conflict with practices and tournaments. Should I still consider Excel?

A. We strongly recommend that families and players minimize any conflict with Excel practices and games. If you are selected to play on an Excel team, the expectation is that you will be at all practices and games to the best of your ability.

Q.   How can I find out more about Appleton Excel before I try out?

A.   Appleton Excel offers an informational night for players and parents. If you are interested in learning more about our club, you should attend this year's informational meeting. We will release the meeting information when our season gets closer. Keep checking our website throughout the summer.
